Learn how our nonprofit supporting veterans allocates every donation with purpose and impact. We stand united to protect our homeless veterans and neighbors — and you can join our mission to help keep America’s heroes safe and warm.

Please keep in mind that while we are grateful for all of the help we receive, there is a difference between helping the homeless and cleaning your garage. We appreciate that people care and want to do something to help; however, we run on a very lean and efficient resource model. Collecting items that we do not use forces us to spend limited resources to sort, clean, store, and transfer materials.

What kind of gear does SZM collect?

We collect adult-size cold-weather gear: coats, hats, gloves, boots, sleeping bags, and tents. Only new or gently used items in good condition, please.

Where do my donations go?

All donations directly support our mission to help the homeless survive the cold. Funds help purchase gear, fuel the bus, and support operational costs.

How do I host a Stuff the Bus event?

Fill out our event interest form and a team member will contact you with next steps. We’ll provide the gear list and promotion materials.

Can I donate clothing other than cold-weather gear?

We focus strictly on cold-weather gear. Please refer to our donation list before donating. We’re unable to accept summer clothing or items for children.

How can I volunteer?

Visit our Volunteer page and complete the interest form. Our team will match you with opportunities based on your availability and skills.

Are you a registered nonprofit?

Yes. The Sub Zero Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Do you help only veterans?

Our primary mission is to serve homeless veterans, but we help any homeless person we find who’s in need — veteran or not.

How do you find the people you help?

Our team travels directly to camps and streets in targeted cities to deliver gear and check on people during cold months. We rely on community tips as well.

Can I ride the bus or join a mission?

Only trained volunteers who’ve completed orientation may join missions. These events are tightly scheduled and follow strict safety guidelines.
