About Us

At The Sub Zero Mission™, our mission is simple: ensure that Nobody Should Freeze to Death in America™. Founded by Veterans and driven by compassion, we are a nonprofit supporting veterans and the homeless by delivering essential warming items—hats, boots, coats, gloves, and sleeping bags—directly to people experiencing homelessness during the coldest months of the year.

Our outreach teams meet people where they are—in camps, under bridges, and on street corners—bringing survival gear, respect, and connections to resources, with a special focus on homeless Veterans.

Principles Of Our Mission

We serve through four pillars—restoring dignity to veterans, empowering veterans, veteran advocacy, and our veteran-founded commitment—that guide every outreach we carry out.

Veteran-Founded

With roots established by Veterans and fueled by compassion, Sub Zero Mission continues its veteran-founded commitment to deliver life-saving warming items—coats, boots, gloves, hats, socks, sleeping bags, and tents—to those experiencing homelessness.

Restoring Dignity

We are not just addressing homelessness—we are restoring dignity to veterans, ensuring that those who once defended our country have safety, purpose, and a place to call home.

Empowering Veterans

Through the Homeless Veteran Re-empowerment Program (HVRP), we go beyond temporary aid by offering housing, employment, transportation, and ongoing support. This work is central to empowering veterans with stability and a clear path forward.

Veteran Advocacy

We continue to expand our reach and strengthen partnerships with community providers and support networks as part of our veteran advocacy efforts.

Who We Are

What began as a small group handing out gear under bridges has grown into a coordinated outreach effort that now reaches thousands across Ohio and beyond.

Based in Painesville, Ohio, The Sub Zero Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded and operated by veterans. Our mission is to ensure that nobody freezes to death in America.

We are committed to ending veteran homelessness, empowering veterans with life-saving supplies, and building clear pathways to recovery and reintegration. Every outreach, training, and event we conduct reflects the compassion, discipline, and teamwork of our founders.

Behind every delivery of warmth is a network of passionate employees, dedicated volunteers, and community partners who embody the spirit of service every day. Together, we restore dignity, inspire hope, and prove that even in the coldest conditions, humanity can bring light and warmth.

What We Do

The Sub Zero Mission delivers life-saving warming items to people experiencing homelessness during the coldest months. Our teams distribute essential gear — hats, coats, gloves, boots, and sleeping bags — the five items we call the “Stay Alive Five.”

Beyond warmth, we help people connect with shelters, veteran services, and community partners who guide them toward stability. Every mission is powered by compassion and the belief that small acts can change lives.

Our Mission

At our core, we believe that nobody should freeze to death in America. Founded and led by veterans, we are driven to serve those who once served us. Through hands-on outreach, training, and community partnerships, we work to end veteran homelessness and restore dignity to every person we meet.

Each winter, our outreach teams — known as the Blue Coat Missionaries — brave harsh conditions to reach people living outdoors. Carrying supplies, compassion, and respect, they deliver warmth and hope where it’s needed most.

Our Impact

Since our founding, The Sub Zero Mission has distributed tens of thousands of warming items across multiple states, helping thousands of people in need. Along the way, we have built partnerships with shelters, veteran support organizations, civic groups, and local businesses — all working toward a common goal:saving lives and restoring dignity.

Each donated coat, each volunteer hour, and each mile traveled represents one more chance to remind someone they have not been forgotten.
